The compositions of Eric Barnum have established his reputation for superb craftsmanship. Using the poetry of John Charles Earle, Barnum creates a mood of optimism and assurance mixed with mystery and gratitude. The anthem opens with solo voices in a quasi-recitative style (Barnum offers an option to begin the piece following the solos) and proceeds to unfold into an anthem of artistry and beauty. Although the text is sacred, the piece would work in services of worship or concert halls.
