Jesse Beulke is a relatively new name yet his writing deserves notice. Selected for the David Dickau Signature Series, this piece may bring him the appropriate attention. The text is quite traditional and set by many masters through the ages. Designed for antiphonal choirs, one chamber choir and the other a full choir, the impact of his skill is quickly evident. The overlapping of tonalities increases the depth of the text and intensity of the work. Advanced high school, college and community choirs will enjoy programming this creative composition. The melodic content is engaging and his use of dissonance is compelling. The ending is perhaps the most spellbinding, as one voice part after another closes to a hum that evaporates into silence.
